Historic Deployment: Wyoming Army Guard’s 2-300th Field Artillery Regiment Deploys Together for the First Time in 70 Years

Wyoming National Guard Holds Send-Off Ceremonies as Soldiers Prepare for Middle East Deployment

The Wyoming National Guard celebrated a historic milestone with send-off ceremonies for various batteries of the 2nd Battalion, 300th Field Artillery Regiment on July 30, 2024. These events, held in Torrington, Gillette, Lander, and Casper, marked the battalion’s eighth deployment in two decades and the first full battalion deployment in over 70 years to conduct a field artillery mission.

More than 360 Soldiers are set to deploy to several Middle Eastern countries in support of Operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve. This significant deployment follows a long history of service, with Lt. Col. Michael Kingman noting, “This marks the first time the battalion has deployed as an integrated whole since the Korean War.”

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon presided over the ceremonies, alongside Maj. Gen. Greg Porter, the Wyoming adjutant general, and other key military leaders. Governor Gordon emphasized the importance of community support for both the Soldiers and their families, stating, “You are Wyoming proud, Wyoming strong, and Wyoming professional. We thank you from the depths of our hearts for your service.”

General Porter highlighted the long-standing commitment of Wyoming’s citizen Soldiers, saying, “For over 136 years, they have raised their right hands to serve our nation.” He reassured families that the community would stand by them in the absence of their loved ones.

Lt. Col. Kingman expressed gratitude towards the families, encouraging them to seek assistance if needed during the deployment. “If you need someone to talk to or help with day-to-day tasks, please reach out. We are here to support you,” he urged.

The ceremonies included traditional presentations, such as “Entering Wyoming” highway signs and the Wyoming flag to symbolize the support from home. The battalion’s colors were cased, signifying their mission ahead.

As the Soldiers prepare for their deployment, Lt. Col. Kingman issued a challenge to them, promising the best leadership and training. “Together, we can emerge from this experience as better friends, spouses, parents, Soldiers, and human beings,” he affirmed.

This deployment not only signifies a pivotal moment for the 2-300th but also underscores the unwavering support of the Wyoming community as the Soldiers embark on their mission.
