The Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance (CSI) is calling for public comments on the regulation of digital assets, including cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, blockchain tokens, and other related financial instruments. With the rise of digital assets, the Commissioner is seeking input to help develop industry standards aimed at protecting investors from fraud and abuse while encouraging innovation.
Commissioner James Brown highlighted the importance of public engagement in shaping responsible policies for these emerging financial products. “Digital assets present both opportunities and risks. We need public input to ensure we implement fair regulations that protect investors while allowing innovation to thrive,” said Commissioner Brown.
Although a public hearing on the topic was held on February 26, 2025, those who could not attend are encouraged to submit their feedback before the deadline of Friday, March 14, 2025, by 5:00 PM (MST).
The Commissioner of Securities and Insurance is responsible for regulating the insurance and securities industries in Montana. James Brown, elected Montana State Auditor in 2024, serves as the Commissioner.
This initiative marks an important step in Montana’s efforts to address the growing influence of digital assets and ensure investor protection through thoughtful regulation.
