Montana Department of Labor Launches Online Wage Claim Portal

HELENA, Mont. — The Montana Department of Labor and Industry unveiled a new online Wage and Hour Portal designed to give workers a faster way to report wage concerns and provide employers a more convenient method for responding to those claims, the agency announced.

The portal connects users with the department’s Employment Standards Division through a secure online system available around the clock. Workers can submit concerns related to unpaid minimum wage, overtime, final paychecks, vacation pay, commissions, earned bonuses, or other compensation disputes. The system walks users through a series of questions and allows them to upload supporting documents such as pay stubs or time sheets, which are sent directly to the division for review.

Labor and Industry Commissioner Sarah Swanson said the portal was designed to remove barriers that have historically made the wage claim process difficult for rural Montanans, including the need to take time off work, travel long distances, or navigate complex paperwork. She said gathering more complete information at the outset would allow staff to review cases more efficiently and resolve disputes more quickly for both sides.

The portal does not replace existing services. Workers can still seek assistance by phone, mail, or in person, and wage claim forms remain available at Job Service offices across the state.

Additional information on Montana wage and hour laws, including relevant statutes, frequently asked questions, and instructional videos, is available on the Department of Labor and Industry’s website at dli.mt.gov.
