Montana Republican Governor Greg Gianforte has released his tax returns, revealing substantial earnings of over $23 million between 2019 and 2022. The disclosure highlights Gianforte’s continued financial success stemming from investments, in contrast to his Democratic opponent, Ryan Busse, who has yet to release his tax records.
Gianforte, a former technology executive seeking reelection to a second term, had previously released 10 years of federal and state tax returns in 2020.
Spokesperson Anna Marian Block emphasized that Gianforte is committed to transparency with Montanans by making his tax returns available. Since 2005, Gianforte has reported over $265 million in income, primarily due to the sale of his Bozeman-based company, RightNow Technologies, to Oracle Corp. for $1.8 billion.
Despite attempts by Democrats and Republican primary challengers in 2020 to use Gianforte’s wealth against him, his financial status has not significantly impacted his political career.
In contrast, Ryan Busse, the Kalispell-based gun control advocate and author, Â challenging Gianforte in the upcoming November election, has refused to disclosed his tax returns.
Publicly available polling data has shown Gianforte leading Busse by more than 20 percentage points.
