The Republican Attorneys General Association is highlighting a new Michigan advertisement from its affiliated Safer Michigan Fund as part of a nearly $7 million political spending campaign across 13 states ahead of the November elections.
Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen serves as chairman of RAGA, which is working to elect and defend Republican attorneys general across the country.
The Michigan ad focuses on public safety and the race for attorney general, contrasting Republican Doug Lloyd, a longtime prosecutor, with Democrats Eli Savit and Abdul El-Sayed.
RAGA Executive Director Adam Piper said fighting crime will be a central issue for voters in November.
The group is portraying Lloyd as a career prosecutor focused on victims and public safety while criticizing Savit and El-Sayed as supporting more progressive criminal-justice policies.
RAGA pointed specifically to Savit’s record as Washtenaw County prosecutor, including his support for no-cash-bail policies, decisions involving the prosecution of sex work and policies involving hallucinogenic drugs. The organization argues those positions demonstrate a more lenient approach to criminal enforcement.
The Michigan advertising is part of RAGA’s nearly $7 million August political expenditure across 13 states, representing the first phase of its fall campaign.
The initial spending includes television and digital advertising aimed at defending Republican attorneys general and competing for offices currently held by Democrats.
RAGA said the campaign supports Republican attorneys general in Iowa, Kansas, Georgia, Ohio, Florida and Texas, as well as Republican nominees in Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, Nevada, New York and Wisconsin.
