Montana to Distribute Second Round of Property Tax Rebates

The Montana Department of Revenue (DOR) is preparing to distribute its second round of property tax rebates to eligible taxpayers. This initiative is part of a broader property tax relief package signed into law by Governor Greg Gianforte in 2023.

Eligible taxpayers can receive a rebate of up to $675 on property taxes paid for their principal residence. To qualify, individuals must have owned and lived in a Montana residence for at least seven months in 2023 and have paid the property taxes on that residence. Properties owned by entities or irrevocable trusts are excluded from this rebate program.

For detailed eligibility requirements, residents are encouraged to visit [getmyrebate.mt.gov](http://getmyrebate.mt.gov).

The application period for the rebate opens on August 15 and runs through October 1, 2024. Taxpayers are advised to apply online for the quickest processing, with the application process expected to take just a few minutes. All rebates will be issued via paper check.

The Department of Revenue cautions taxpayers to be vigilant for potential fraud during the application period. To avoid scams, it is recommended that residents apply early using the official website, [getmyrebate.mt.gov](http://getmyrebate.mt.gov).

Governor Gianforte’s property tax relief measures, which include the largest rebate in state history, have saved property taxpayers over $120 million. These reforms, along with the recent initiatives, have effectively countered the property tax increases faced by the average Montana homeowner.

In addition to the immediate relief, Governor Gianforte has established a bipartisan property tax task force to identify long-term reforms aimed at providing substantial and enduring property tax relief for homeowners.
