North Dakota DOT Invites Public to Participate in Annual Name-A-Plow Contest

The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is inviting the public to submit creative name ideas for its annual Name-A-Plow Contest. Past winning entries have included clever names like Buzz Iceclear, Alice Scooper, Darth Blader, and CtrlSaltDelete. Submissions can be made through the NDDOT website at www.dot.nd.gov/name-a-plow until November 15.

Now in its fourth year, the contest aims to engage the public and raise awareness about winter driving safety.

“We’ve been consistently impressed with the quality of submissions we receive. It’s clear that North Dakotans enjoy this fun challenge and put real thought into their names,” said NDDOT Director Ron Henke. “This contest allows us to discuss winter driving and share tips for safely navigating around snowplows.”

Individuals or groups can submit name ideas, and eight snowplows—one from each NDDOT district—will be named. After the submission period closes, NDDOT staff will vote on their favorites, with winners to be announced on social media in mid-December.

The NDDOT also reminds motorists to slow down and exercise caution in work zones, during winter weather, and around snowplows.
