Judge Shon Kaelberer Hastings Under Consideration for Reappointment

Chief Judge Shon Kaelberer Hastings, currently serving as the United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of North Dakota in Fargo, is nearing the expiration of her term, which ends on September 8, 2025. The United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit is reviewing her potential reappointment and has indicated that she merits consideration for a new term, pending public notice and comments.

If reappointed, Judge Hastings will continue to oversee bankruptcy cases and proceedings as outlined in the United States Code, specifically under titles 28 and 11, as well as the Bankruptcy Amendments and Federal Judgeship Act of 1984. Her responsibilities would include conducting status conferences, hearings, and trials, making final rulings, issuing orders and judgments, and submitting proposed findings of fact and conclusions of law to the district court.

The court encourages members of the bar and the public to submit comments regarding Judge Hastings’ reappointment. All submissions will remain confidential. Comments should be directed to Millie B. Adams, Circuit Executive, at 111 South 10th Street, Suite 26.325, St. Louis, Missouri 63102-1116, or via email at CE8employment1@ca8.uscourts.gov.

The deadline for submitting comments is Friday, November 15, 2024.
