Author and filmmaker St. Clair Detrick-Jules will speak Feb. 7 at Montana State

BOZEMAN – Author and filmmaker St. Clair Detrick-Jules will speak at Montana State University as part of the Black History Month Celebration hosted by the Diversity and Inclusion Student Commons and the Associated Students of MSU. The event will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, in the Strand Union Building, Ballroom A, and is free and open to the public.

Detrick-Jules is an author and filmmaker whose works include books such as, “My Hair is Like the Sun,” “DACAmented” and “30 Days, 30 Stories.” Her work focuses on capturing important moments related to topics such as Black liberation and women’s justice. She will speak about beauty and self-love in the context of her newest book, “My Beautiful Black Hair,” which contains stories she gathered in interviews with people across the country. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow the talk.

Barbara do Amaral, managing director of MSU’s Diversity and Inclusion Student Commons, said she hopes the community will enjoy and appreciate St. Clair’s powerful message.

“She calls her message one of joy,” said do Amaral. “St. Clair’s presentation will provide a unique perspective on an important topic, emphasizing the significance of individual expression. And I hope that there will be a big turnout.”
