The main super PAC supporting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the Republican presidential primary, Never Back Down, has decided to cancel its remaining TV ad reservations in Iowa and New Hampshire.
The chairman of the group, Scott Wagner, mentioned that Fight Right, another super PAC supporting DeSantis, will now handle TV ad spending, while Never Back Down will focus on its field operation. Ad cancellations by Never Back Down amounted to over $2.5 million, with Fight Right planning to spend more than $2.5 million on TV ads in Iowa, starting Sunday.
Another super PAC, Good Fight, is also entering the scene, having booked nearly $300,000 worth of airtime in Iowa. This shift in strategy comes amid recent turmoil and the departure of top strategists from Never Back Down. Despite being the top spender in the GOP presidential primary, the group went dark on the airwaves in December, and the DeSantis campaign is concentrating its efforts on Iowa.
However, a recent NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll showed DeSantis significantly behind former President Donald Trump among potential GOP caucusgoers in Iowa. Additionally, in New Hampshire, a survey by the Saint Anselm College Survey Center this week indicated that DeSantis was trailing behind Trump, Nikki Haley, and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie among likely Republican primary voters.
