Governor Greg Gianforte Presents Spirit of Montana Award to Havre Teacher Cheryl Russell

Governor Greg Gianforte recently honored Cheryl Russell, a dedicated teacher from Havre Public Schools, with the Spirit of Montana award, recognizing her exceptional commitment to education and service.

During a surprise ceremony held at Havre Public Schools, Governor Gianforte celebrated Russell’s nearly 30-year career in education. “One of the greatest pleasures I have as governor is recognizing Montanans who embody commitment to service,” Gianforte said. “Serving others is who we are as Montanans, and thanks to teachers like Cheryl, it’s part of what makes our state the Last Best Place.”

Russell’s career began in the 1990s as a classroom aide. She pursued a master’s degree in special education, which led her to a 13-year teaching career before becoming the Special Education Director at Havre Public Schools (HPS). Her dedication to supporting special needs students has been a cornerstone of her professional life.

In addition to reading a heartfelt letter, Governor Gianforte presented Russell with a Montana State Flag. “Teaching our kids is a calling, and service is at the core of your values. On behalf of a grateful state, thank you for dedicating your career to serving others and being an integral part of not only HPS but also our Montana communities,” the governor said.
